Patricia Cornwell once again brings Kay
Scarpetta alive in this tale. It is as always, well written, with a
superb plot. All the main characters are involved but in this book
they all have to cope with bouts of vulnerability and self doubt. The
author it seems is trying to bring a small amount of susceptibility to
the characters, so they appear more real to the reader.
As well as focusing on the forensic details
of a crime and the methods used to detect foul play it highlights
throughout the flaws that can beset us as a race. Mental illness and
the battle to find out why it affects some and not others. Physical
illness, relationship problems and of course madness. The plot is
easily followed and there is more than one twist and turn in there to
at least nudge the reader into mentally nodding in agreement. Cornwell
is a prolific writer and never seems to fail to entertain her readers.
